Amazon just offered a rare discount on the MacBook Neo, bringing Apple’s budget laptop to the best price I’ve seen since June. Stock is very limited, but there’s still time to get the MacBook Neo on Amazon for £609.97 (was £699).

Unfortunately, it’s still around £50 more than the previous record price, but the chances of seeing a discount like that again are very slim, given that the MacBook Neo received a pretty hefty price increase earlier this year. Still, at around £600, the Neo is an excellent value buy for home, college and university use, if you want a reasonably powerful entry-level MacBook at a cheaper price.

At this kind of price, it more comfortably puts it in direct competition with the Dell XPS 13 and several more modern Snapdragon-powered machines, which offer a similar level of power, performance, and battery life. It also means you no longer need to pay such a high premium to enter the Apple ecosystem, if that’s your preference for a laptop.

Amazon’s rare MacBook Neo deal

Our MacBook Neo review was full of praise for Apple’s newest device, calling it “the best budget laptop you can buy.” It’s a tougher recommendation after the price increase, but discounts like this bring it back into that mid-to-entry-level price range where we found it excels.

Yes, with specs including an A18 Pro chip, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage, you won’t get the raw power you’ll find in the Air or Pro. However, the Neo isn’t designed for the advanced creative and productivity workloads that more expensive MacBooks excel at. Instead, it’s a smart buy for general use or for students who prefer the Apple ecosystem for college.
