Wall-mountable 4K trilaser projector is super bright and snappy

Let’s face it, even the nicest lifestyle projectors can negatively affect the ambiance of your living room. UST designs minimize that jarring effect by nestling close to the wall, and specialist AWOL Vision has a shiny new bundle of joy that’s almost ready for action.

For a while now, people who connect smart projectors to their gaming consoles to watch action on the big screen may have been a little frustrated by the results. While refreshing the monster image 30, or even 60 times per second, may be good for casual combatants, it won’t quench the thirst for fast-action clarity that serious gamers demand.

While many lifestyle projectors promise captivating daytime viewing, LuxVision UST has all the ingredients for success.

Last month, at Europe’s largest technology exhibition, the first models capable of reproducing 4K images at 120 Hz for cable content were announced. AWOL Vision’s LuxVision ultra-short throw laser projector stood out from the rest by also including the industry’s first vertical optical lens shift for this type of audiovisual entertainment device.

We covered the launch, but now that it’s available for pre-order, we know a few more specs in addition to the final suggested retail price and bundle deals.

LuxVision UST brings “sharper, smoother motion to the big screen”

As our headline here suggests, this model shouldn’t necessarily be reserved for movie night in a darkened home theater. Its triple laser (RGB) light source is reported to be capable of emitting a whopping 6,000 ISO lumens. For comparison, the top dog from AWOL’s excellent Aetherion series achieves about half that, and I found that looking away from direct sunlight on a wall or matte white screen is great for a quick hit, but waiting until dark produced the best results in my setup. The LuxVision model’s output is said to “help maintain vivid images even in real home lighting,” meaning daylight viewing is on the menu.

The company has confirmed that HDMI input lag in 4K/120Hz is reduced to just one millisecond when combined with automatic low latency and variable refresh mode. That should be good for both snipers and virtual F1 racers. Additionally, Dolby Vision Gaming is waiting for compatible titles. And of course, sports and movie fans should also benefit from this kind of snappy response.

“The world’s first UST projector with optional lens shift is designed to adapt to the changing ways people use their big screens, delivering a personalized experience for every scenario”

Long throw projectors use lens shift to help images fit better into the space they are in without having to move the units (or cumbersome large screens) from side to side. AWOL brings this kind of flexibility to LuxVision, allowing the image to move “vertically within a 142-152% shift range without cropping, scaling, or sacrificing true 4K detail.”

If the unit is placed just 7.5 inches from a vertical viewing surface, the 0.18:1 throw ratio will produce a 120-inch diagonal rectangle. That should mean no one casting shadows on the massive visual feast while you take a bathroom break. And if your head can handle the overload, an optional upgrade is available that offers multiple views in a single display space. So you can keep an eye on all the big games while you make your way through zombie-filled wastelands or catch up on your favorite talent show.

Our previous coverage detailed many of the other capabilities and specs of this Google TV projector, including Dynamic IRIS technology, Color Gamut Coverage, Anti-RBE Cuts, Native Contrast, and more, so be sure to check it out after you’ve registered the pricing information below.

The pre-order period runs until November 2 and until then you can make a refundable deposit of US$100 to secure the introductory offer. This means that in addition to the LuxVision projector, early birds will also receive a complimentary large screen.

Once the calendar reaches November 3, the balance of $5,899 must be paid and shipping will begin. For everyone missing this promotional window, the suggested retail price for LuxVision alone is $5,999.
