JMGO IRIS Series 4K Laser Projectors Drive 120Hz Motion Clarity

As we recently mentioned in our recent coverage of the XGIMI and AWOL Vision ultra-short throw projectors, the race is on to bring a 4K/120Hz model to market. JMGO has already had a non-wall-hugging device available in China for a while now, now it’s available for pre-order globally.

Console gamers connected to either of the two IRIS series smart projectors currently awaiting general release will likely benefit the most from the fast frame rates here.

“As big-screen entertainment enters the era of high frame rates, conventional 60Hz projection can no longer meet the demand for greater motion clarity,” the company said in a recent press release. “The JMGO IRIS series delivers true 4K at 120Hz from input to output. Powered by a dual DLPC architecture and the JMGO HyperPulse actuator, which switches 480 times per second, the JMGO IRIS series retains full 4K detail at 120Hz.”

That should mean sharper, faster-moving targets, as the image refreshes 120 times per second and vibration will no longer be your enemy. Variable refresh rates are also part of this equation, along with automatic low latency. But action movie fans will also benefit from greater fluidity and clarity with MEMC enabled, as well as “cinematic-grade image quality.”

The overall specs of both offerings are quite similar, with the Ultra Max putting out 6,500 ISO lumens from its triple laser light source (the Ultra managed 4,500 ISO lumens) and boasting a native contrast of 10,000:1 (compared to its sibling’s 7,000:1).

The projection engine uses a relatively large 0.47-inch DMD chip and employs dual DLPC8545 display drivers. This allows for high-brightness laser output, which could translate into respectable daytime viewing, as long as sunlight does not affect the viewing group.

JMGO claims Delta color accuracy is 0.7 here (the lower the better), and BT.2020 gamut coverage is reported to be 110%. Supported content types include HDR and Dolby Vision. In fact, JMGO claims to be the first in the world to support Dolby Vision in 4K/120Hz playback.

A six-level dual iris system built on a 15-blade design has been included for better suppression of stray light. Combined with high native contrast, this also promises deeper blacks and richer shadow details, although you’ll probably need a screen that rejects ambient light to get the maximum benefit. Frame-by-frame optimization also improves details and skin tone with the help of artificial intelligence.

Each of the projectors can produce 300-inch diagonal images with a gap (approximately) of 20 feet between the vertical surface and the front of the unit. If, like me, your house isn’t big enough for that kind of viewing experience, then backing the unit back about 6.5 feet should leave you 100 inches to gawk at.

There’s a 0.88-1.7:1 optical zoom built in, along with automatic keystone correction, automatic screen adjustment (AI with the Max model) and autofocus for improved sharpness. Those sensitive to rainbow effect, a problem with RGB laser light sources that can manifest as color breaking during high-contrast or fast-moving scenes, are promised greater viewing comfort thanks to Anti-RBE technology at the hardware level, all without additional operating noise.

Each unit sits on its own gimbal mount that can rotate 360 ​​degrees horizontally and 160 degrees vertically. You’ll have to be aggressive with the Ultra model, but the Max can follow the movement of the included remote control. Additionally, there is a four-way optical lens shift if you need to reposition the image without touching the unit.

Wi-Fi 6 allows Google TV to offer streaming entertainment, while those who prefer a wired connection can look for the HDMI 2.1 ports (with audio return) on the back of the gimbal base. And whichever model you choose, it will feature a 25W dual-channel sound system.

The IRIS series projectors are currently available for pre-order following their global debut at IFA 2026 earlier this month. The Ultra Max’s list price is $3,499, but getting it early could save you $500. The Ultra model has a suggested retail price of $2,399, with a $500 discount also available for pre-orders. There are also package deals with accessories and displays on the table. Shipping is expected to begin from October 19.
