The OLED MacBook Pro is rumored to be “significantly lighter,” but the main concern remains that it will significantly lighten your wallet or affect battery life.
- OLED MacBook Pro rumored to be ‘significantly lighter’
- Leaker Mark Gurman believes it could arrive at the end of this month.
- If it’s thinner and lighter, Apple laptop fans worry it could compromise the battery or other areas, and price concerns remain strong.
The supposedly imminent MacBook Pro with OLED is expected to be much lighter than a traditional MacBook Pro model, according to a new leak.
This comes from Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter (via MacRumors), where the leaker tells us: “Apple has redesigned the inside of the machine, miniaturizing parts and rearranging components to make the computer much easier to transport.”
As a result, the MacBook Pro OLED should be “significantly lighter” and thinner. Other rumors include a touchscreen with a dynamic island instead of a notch and that it is powered by Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

The theory is that we are now very close to a launch and that this will happen either later this month or in November.
Take all of this with an appropriate amount of seasoning, of course, but this latest piece of information about the sleek nature of the MacBook Pro OLED has received a surprising amount of backlash.
Analysis: resistance to change
Some of the snipers who have Apple in their sights with this latest revelation (assuming it’s true) are happy with the MacBook Pro as is and don’t want Apple to mess around too much with that design.
This Redditor complains: “The thick chassis of the current Pro is perfect. If people want something thin, they have the MacBook Air.”
Others simply don’t want any changes at all, and the following comment was heavily upvoted: “The current design is great, I’m actually not ready to give it up.”
However, part of the point of moving to OLED is that this allows for a thinner screen, thus contributing to the thinness of the laptop. So this shouldn’t come as a surprise, although I suppose the “significant” addition to the wording of the rumor is what has people worried.
I understand that Gurman’s comment about “miniaturizing parts” is also going to cause some uproar, as people are worried that this means the battery may be about to be compromised and the longevity of the laptop may be affected.
Another Redditor says: “Hopefully this doesn’t affect the battery capacity… the current design of the internals is packed in, not that there’s anything redundant nor do I see them changing the chassis material.”
Others fear that connectivity will be sacrificed rather than battery life for the sake of thinness, and that there will be fewer ports on the OLED MacBook Pro.
However, the biggest complaint by far remains the price, with concerns that Apple’s OLED laptop will become even more exorbitantly expensive if you add another premium design element, which is much thinner and lighter, to the configuration sheet.
Instead of talking about the weight, this Reddit user jokes: “I think it’s a misunderstanding. Your wallet will be much lighter.”
They’re also not the only person making that joke on Reddit. We’ll have to see how this incoming MacBook Pro plays out, but for now, the cynics and skeptics throwing criticism clearly outnumber those who are excited about the arrival of the first OLED model.
