NYT Strands Today (Game #944): The Answers
The answers to today’s Strands game number 944 are…
- MIRAGE
- MIRAGE
- CHIMERA
- SPECTRUM
- GHOST
- SPANGRAM:WILLOTHEWISP
- My rating: Hard
- My score: 1 track
WILLOTHEWISP was a spangram that I didn’t see until the end of what was a fairly long game with a lot of interesting and well-hidden words.
After picking up MIRAGE right away, I was expecting an easy game, but nowhere near it. Instead, I kept working and needed a hint mid-game, which gave me the enigmatic word CHIMERA.
The will-o’-the-wisp is a flickering ghostly light seen over bogs, swamps, and marshes at night; a trick of the light that scares and enters; It should not be confused with a 1970s British children’s cartoon series called Willo the will-o’-the-wisp, about a blue ghost voiced by Kenneth Williams and a smug cat based on Noel Coward. Yes, really.
Answers from yesterday’s NYT Strands (Friday, October 2, game #943)

- CAUTIOUS
